Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope on Friday that U.S. President Joe Biden will endorse his plan to end the ongoing conflict with Russia, ahead of an upcoming visit to Washington.
Zelensky is set to present his “victory plan” to Biden in the coming days, aimed at bringing an end to the war that has resulted in significant loss of life. “I really hope that he will support this plan,” Zelensky stated during a press conference in Kyiv alongside EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
He outlined that the plan is designed to facilitate critical decisions from October to December, emphasizing, “We would like that very much. Then we believe that the plan will work.”
The Ukrainian leader’s visit comes after a summer marked by intense fighting, with Russian forces making advances in eastern Ukraine while Kyiv has managed to maintain control over parts of the Kursk region. During his trip, Zelensky is scheduled to meet with Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and he also intends to engage with Biden’s Republican challenger, Donald Trump.
Additionally, Zelensky has announced plans to host an international peace summit in November, where he will outline his vision for ending the war, inviting Russia to participate. Russian President Vladimir Putin has indicated that Moscow is willing to enter peace talks only if Ukraine surrenders control of four of its regions.
