According to manager Gary O’Neil, Wolverhampton Wanderers could face a significant setback as Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha is expected to be out of action for an extended period due to a hamstring injury.

This news comes as a blow to the Premier League club, which has been performing impressively since the start of the year, including a notable 4-2 victory against Chelsea, during which Cunha, aged 24, scored a hat-trick.

Cunha sustained the injury during their recent match against Brentford over the weekend.

“It’s a fairly significant injury to his hamstring. There’s no timeline on it. I’ve spoken to Matheus a lot and he just wants to keep pushing to get back as soon as he can,” O’Neil said.

“He’s started working on it already, so we’re just going to monitor it week by week, day by day.

“It’s obviously a big blow to us, to the team and Matheus because of the work he’s been doing – the form he was in was exceptional. These things happen, every team suffers injuries.”

Wolverhampton Wanderers, currently occupying the 11th place in the Premier League standings, are set to face an away match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
