The University of Medical Sciences, located in Ondo State, has taken the decision to dismiss Prof Adolphus Loto, the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Clinical Services.

In an official statement released by Temitope Oluwatayo, the Assistant Registrar of the Public Relations Unit, it was revealed that the Governing Council of UNIMED ratified the Senate’s decision during its 22nd Statutory meeting held at the Council Chamber, Medical Village Campus, Ondo.

The decision to terminate Prof Loto’s position stemmed from allegations of unprofessional behavior, including the submission of baseless and unsubstantiated petitions against the university management.

The matter was thoroughly investigated by the Petitions Committee of Council, which examined Prof Loto’s 13-page petition as well as the responses from the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Bursar. The committee found the allegations to be false and lacking in any merit, bringing embarrassment to the university and tarnishing its reputation, especially considering Prof Loto’s role as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

Following the committee’s findings, the University Senate convened on April 29, 2024, and supported the recommendation for the removal of Prof Loto as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, with a unanimous vote in favor of his dismissal.

Speaking on behalf of the Governing Council, Prof Ayodele Arowojolu, the UNIMED Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, emphasized that the overwhelming support for the removal of Prof Loto by the Senate highlighted a lack of confidence in his ability to fulfill his duties as the DVC Admin.

Consequently, the Governing Council officially approved the Senate’s resolution and confirmed the removal of Prof Adolphus Odogun Loto from the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

It is important to note that the allegations made by Prof Loto were deemed baseless and untrue, with the university stating that they had the potential to disrupt the peace within the university community and damage its reputation.

The University of Medical Sciences is committed to upholding its values of integrity and professionalism, and this decision reflects its dedication to maintaining a conducive academic environment for its students and staff.
