Bauchi, Nigeria – The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two individuals in separate incidents within the state.

According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil, the first incident occurred after the police received a distress call from the Gwallameji area. A group of hunters led by 49-year-old Commander Saidu Musa, armed with machetes and guns, had been dispatched to apprehend an unidentified person following a complaint by local resident Ibrahim Lado.

However, the statement explains that the local residents mistook the hunters for armed robbers and responded forcefully, overpowering and injuring the group. As a result, 27-year-old hunter Nasiru Adam, a resident of Tani-Yola, sustained severe injuries. Despite being rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Adam was pronounced dead by medical staff.

Additionally, the police report states that three of the hunters’ motorcycles were burned during the incident.

In a separate incident on June 2, the police say a rival group of hoodlums known as ‘Yan Tokara carried out a reprisal attack in the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi metropolis, leading to the death of 21-year-old Rabiu Shehu, also known as Rambo, a resident of Muda Lawal. Shehu was reportedly attacked and stabbed in the stomach and neck by an unknown assailant suspected to be part of the rival criminal group. He was rushed to the Specialists Hospital in Bauchi but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Bauchi State Police Command has directed tactical commanders, area commanders, and Divisional Police Officers to conduct thorough searches throughout the state to apprehend those responsible for the two incidents. Officers have also been heavily deployed across the state to ensure the arrest of the criminals involved.

The PPRO emphasized that a discreet investigation has been ordered to uncover the full circumstances leading to the tragic deaths of the two individuals.
