Ogun State, August 23rd – In a heartbreaking incident, a grandmother and her young granddaughter were killed after a truck collided with their tricycle in the Papalanto area of Ogun State.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, just a day after another deadly crash in the Lafenwa region of the state claimed four lives and injured two.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the latest accident involved an Iveco Truck with license plate KJA 166 XJ and a Tricycle with plate number TRE 627 VP.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the truck driver attempted to overtake the tricycle while both vehicles were in transit towards Abeokuta. In the process, the truck dragged the tricycle alongside it, causing it to fall in front of the larger vehicle before running it over.
“Regrettably, the truck driver escaped from the scene before being apprehended,” Akinbiyi reported.
The two female occupants of the tricycle, the grandmother and her granddaughter, were killed instantly. Their bodies have been collected by their grieving families.
The injured tricycle driver was rescued and taken to an unknown hospital by a good Samaritan. The accident vehicles have been impounded at the Itori Divisional Police Command as authorities investigate the tragic incident.
TRACE and the Police have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased victims, urging motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid dangerous, reckless driving to prevent such devastating consequences in the future.
