In a decisive move to address the escalating food crisis, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rallied state governors to prioritize massive food production. During the 142nd National Economic Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, he urged them to collaborate and meet the urgent needs of citizens.
Food Sufficiency and Urgency
President Tinubu emphasized the critical importance of timely action. He stated, “Time is humanity’s most precious asset. We can never have enough of it.” With this urgency in mind, he called for coordinated efforts among state governments, which control vast agricultural land. The goal? To produce high-quality food for Nigerians to consume, buy, and sell.
Support and Mechanization
The President assured governors of support. Mechanization of agricultural processes and provision of high-quality seedlings are on the table. Solar-powered irrigation facilities will aid farmers across seasons. But the key lies in actual production. “We must deliver on our targets at all levels,” President Tinubu asserted.
Construction and Household Support Programme
In addition to food production, the President greenlit the National Construction and Household Support Programme. This initiative spans all geo-political zones and aims to boost agricultural productivity, create opportunities in real sectors (agriculture, manufacturing, and construction), and provide economic relief for Nigerians.
Infrastructure Priorities
The Sokoto-Badagry Highway takes center stage. Stretching across Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos, it promises improved transportation links and job creation. Other road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Trans-Saharan Highway, are also prioritized.
A Call to Action
President Tinubu’s rallying cry echoes: “How much support do you need from me and in what form? I am prepared to provide it. But we must achieve the result.” As Nigerians, let’s unite to ensure food security, economic growth, and a brighter future for all
