In an unexpected turn of events, a student from the Delta State University, identified as Nelson Eserada, has been apprehended by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly staging his own kidnapping. This shocking incident has left the community in disbelief as the details of this deceptive plot continue to unfold.
Eserada, a final-year student of the Banking & Finance Department, reportedly orchestrated his own abduction and demanded a ransom of a staggering N50 million from his father. The audacious demand was made in bitcoin, adding a layer of complexity to the already perplexing situation.
The police were alerted to the situation when Eserada’s father lodged a complaint at the Abraka Division, reporting that his son had been kidnapped. The kidnappers had sent a video showing the supposed victim tied up and being tortured, further escalating the tension and urgency of the situation.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abraka, SP Fabian Ayameh, swiftly initiated a technical intelligence-led investigation. The investigation led to the arrest of one Jerry Lawrence from Jeddo Community, Warri, on June 10, 2024. Lawrence was found to be in connection with the crime and was revealed to be the principal suspect.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Lawrence had conspired with Eserada to stage the kidnapping. It was also revealed that Eserada’s father had already paid a sum of N5.2 million as ransom through a Bitcoin account belonging to Lawrence.
The Delta State Police Command’s Spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest of the suspects and stated that they are currently in custody. He also disclosed that the investigation is ongoing.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising questions about the safety and security of the residents. It has also highlighted the need for increased vigilance and the importance of robust and swift police action in such situations.
In the wake of this incident, the Delta State Police Command has also arrested eight suspected armed robbers who were reportedly terrorizing the Asaba metropolis. These arrests followed complaints of house-to-house armed robbery incidents received from residents in Bonsaac, Okwe, and other areas in the Asaba metropolis.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has reassured the public of their safety and has pledged to continue working tirelessly to maintain law and order in the state.
