In a successful operation, the Nigeria Police Force has rescued an additional seven students who were abducted from the Confluence University of Science and Technology, located in Osara, Kogi State.

According to a report by PUNCH Online, the bandits struck the university on Thursday night, targeting students who were preparing for their upcoming exams.

The bandits, who entered the university through the bush, caused panic by firing shots into the air to intimidate the students. They proceeded to invade three lecture halls. In response to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed the Air Component of the Police Security apparatus, comprising a specially trained helicopter crew for aerial surveillance and monitoring, as well as the state’s Technical Intelligence Unit.

The deployment of these resources is part of the ongoing rescue operation and aims to sustain the fight against the suspected bandits responsible for the abduction. A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, emphasized the commitment of the police to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians, particularly the safety of children in schools.

The combined efforts of the police and other security teams led to the successful rescue of seven more students, bringing the total number of rescued students to 21. However, it was emphasized that the mission is not yet complete, and all stakeholders must remain vigilant and work together to ensure the safe rescue of all remaining students and the apprehension of the perpetrators.

The Kogi State Government and the university community expressed their satisfaction with the progress of the rescue operations. They commended the high level of cooperation, collaboration, and synergy among the security agencies involved. The State Commissioner of Police, Bertrand Onuoha, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the security teams for their exceptional patriotism. He also called on the people of Kogi State to continue supporting and cooperating with the police and other security agencies to maintain adequate security for law-abiding citizens in the state.
