The Nigeria Police Force has issued a public appeal for Andrew Wynne, a British national wanted in connection with alleged plots to destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s administration, to emerge from hiding and turn himself in.
This statement comes in response to Wynne’s recent claims that he was not given any prior notice before being declared a fugitive.
Wynne, along with his Nigerian associate Lucky Obiyan, has been placed on the wanted list with a bounty of N20 million for their alleged involvement in conspiracy against the government. In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wynne insisted he was unaware of his wanted status.
Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi addressed the media in Abuja, asserting that Wynne had been contacted multiple times, including following a police raid on his workshop. “He has been contacted several times,” Adejobi said. “After our intervention, he failed to show up. If he had a legitimate business, he would have inquired about our presence at his shop.”
Adejobi emphasized that the police had traced Wynne’s private school and interviewed staff, yet he remained elusive. “Where is he, and why is he hiding while claiming he has no case to answer?” he questioned.
The spokesperson maintained that sufficient evidence exists against Wynne, and his associates have already faced legal action. He urged Wynne to confront the allegations directly, stating, “Let him come out and face the law like his accomplices have done.”
In response to Wynne’s suggestion of a Zoom interrogation, Adejobi rejected the idea, citing the seriousness of the charges. “We need to question him in person,” he asserted. “If he is a genuine businessman, he should report to the police and help clarify the situation.”
