Abuja – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the deployment of personnel and equipment in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on October 1.
This initiative aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for residents.
Although the command currently operates without a Commissioner of Police, it has not disclosed any specific plans regarding potential protests anticipated on the same day.
In a statement released on Monday, police spokesperson Josephine Adeh detailed the measures being implemented. These include the deployment of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units, anti-riot gear, and a focus on visibility policing.
“The FCT Police Command is strategically positioning personnel and equipment across the territory to facilitate a smooth Independence Day celebration,” Adeh stated. “Our proactive approach is designed to ensure that all residents can celebrate without incident.”
Additionally, traffic diversions will be enforced in high-traffic areas, particularly around Eagle Square and the Central Area, to manage the expected influx of attendees.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant during the celebrations and to report any suspicious activities to the FCT Police emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653, PCB: 09022222352, and CRU: 08107314192.
The police command is committed to maintaining public safety and order during this national holiday.
