The cause of death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, remains undisclosed as the autopsy conducted on the late singer’s body failed to ascertain the exact reason for his demise.
Renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, made this revelation during a press conference held at the coroner’s inquest in Lagos State on Wednesday.
According to Shittu, the pathologist responsible for the autopsy reported that the state of decomposition of the deceased’s body made it impossible to determine the cause of death during the examination. “The pathologist stated that due to the advanced decomposition, the cause of death cannot be determined. Therefore, it is deemed suspicious and unclear, without any specific reason,” he explained.
Furthermore, Shittu disclosed that the pathologist suggested that the late singer may have experienced a negative reaction to certain medications administered to him prior to his death. However, it remains uncertain whether the drugs directly contributed to his demise. Shittu urged the public to refrain from drawing hasty conclusions and emphasized the expertise of the pathologist who provided the report.
The senior counsel admitted that he had not yet seen the complete report and revealed that the coroner had advised them to submit an application to access the document. Shittu also mentioned that a date has been scheduled for the cross-examination of the pathologist regarding the autopsy findings. “We should withhold judgment until we have examined the full report. As of now, I have not seen the complete report. The court has advised us to obtain it through an application. The final verdict should be evaluated along with the reasons provided to reach that conclusion,” he stated.
Mohbad, a former artist signed to Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, triggering a wave of controversies on social media surrounding the circumstances of his death. On September 18, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command formed a 13-member special investigation team to probe the incident. The subsequent arrests of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, were linked to the singer’s demise. On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for the purpose of conducting an autopsy in order to determine the cause of death.
In September 2023, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted that the autopsy had been completed and that the police were awaiting the results. It should be noted that the toxicology test, conducted to shed light on the music star’s cause of death, had already concluded. The results were subsequently sent to the pathologist in charge of the autopsy for analysis and interpretation.
