In a move to support education in the Ikorodu division of Lagos State, the Ogunlewe family has donated a 100-bed capacity twin hostel to the Lagos State Civil Service Model College in Igbogbo.

The project, which was undertaken to honor the family’s late patriarchs, Amos and Oba Festus Ogunlewe, aims to address the pressing need for on-campus accommodation for both students and teachers.

Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, emphasized the importance of having principals and teachers reside on school campuses to enhance their effectiveness in monitoring and mentoring students. “We don’t have enough accommodation for our students or teachers, and we believe that the principal must reside on the campus to be effective,” Ogunlewe said.

Jaiyeola Ogunlewe, a member of the Ogunlewe family, stated that the project is a tribute to the achievements of their late patriarchs, whom the family described as the vanguards of Western education in the Igbogbo Kingdom.

Former Lagos State Head of Service, Adesegun Ogunlewe, also highlighted the ongoing efforts by Ikorodu indigenes to support educational projects and create an enabling environment for teaching and learning. “Ikorodu indigenes have been doing a lot to support education in Lagos State, particularly in Ikorodu Division, and our objective is to ensure that we create an enabling environment for teaching and learning,” he said.

The Ogunlewe family’s generous donation is expected to have a positive impact on the educational landscape in the Ikorodu division, providing much-needed accommodation for both students and teachers, and contributing to the overall improvement of the learning environment.
