Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, famously known as Evans, the billionaire kidnapper who has been convicted, has made a surprising move by seeking a plea bargain as his trial progresses at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja.
Accompanied by his co-defendant Joseph Emeka, who is facing charges of murder and attempted kidnapping, Evans has chosen the option of a plea bargain, presenting a new twist to the ongoing legal proceedings.
During the re-arraignment before Justice Adenike Coker, the state prosecution counsel, Mr. Yusuf Sule, disclosed to the court the defendant’s intention to pursue a plea bargain. The charges against Evans and his co-defendant have been amended to include five counts related to murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit felony (specifically kidnapping), and attempt to murder.
Mr. Sule informed the court that the purpose of the re-arraignment was to consider the plea bargain application made by the defendant. The terms of the plea bargain are currently under evaluation by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), according to the prosecutor.
