PARIS, August 7, 2024 – Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion in the 100m hurdles, has booked her spot in the semifinals of the event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Amusan clocked an impressive time of 12.49 seconds in the qualifying round on Wednesday, leading the field of eight athletes. American Alaysha Johnson finished second with 12.61 seconds, while Jamaica’s Janeek Brown also advanced with 12.84 seconds.
Amusan’s dominant performance sets up a tantalizing showdown in the semifinals as she aims to add an Olympic gold medal to her growing collection of accolades. The 27-year-old Nigerian star is widely regarded as one of the favorites to stand atop the podium in the event.
“I’m thrilled to have made it this far, but the job is not done yet,” Amusan said after the race. “I’m focused on putting together the perfect race in the semifinals and going for the gold.”
