Another tragic boat accident has occurred in Taraba, claiming the lives of 20 children and 12 others. The incident took place on Saturday when a boat carrying over 50 fishermen capsized along the Benue River, between Taraba and Benue borders.
The boat was ferrying fishermen from Ibbi town to the Eastern part of the country for fishing when it capsized around Zabu.
The victims included 20 children and 12 parents.
The accident happened near the local government area of Ibbi.
This is the second fatal boat accident in Taraba in recent weeks, following a similar incident in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area that claimed several lives.
Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and described the incident as worrisome.
The governor assured that the state government is working on measures to prevent future boat mishaps, including investigating the causes and implementing safety measures such as the use of life jackets.
