The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has reached out to the producers of the upcoming movie “Blood Brothers” over the use of the niqab (Islamic face covering) in a robbery scene.

The scene sparked outrage among Muslims after actress Nancy Isime shared a photo of it on Instagram. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) called for the movie to be banned, describing it as “satanic” and claiming it depicts Muslim women as criminals.

The NFVCB says the movie has not been released or submitted for classification yet. However, the agency has contacted the producers to address the concerns raised.
The NFVCB director general reiterated that the agency will not tolerate any film content that disrespects religious, cultural or ethnic sensibilities. He said the NFVCB is committed to preserving freedom of expression while limiting social, cultural and religious harm caused by films.

The niqab is a type of Islamic garment worn by some Muslim women as part of their modesty practices, covering the entire face except the eyes.
In summary, the film regulatory body has intervened to address the concerns raised about the portrayal of the niqab in an upcoming Nigerian movie.
