Lagos, 2024-05-17 – A young nursing mother, Susan Ubangha, has found herself in a dire situation after giving birth at the Alimosho General Hospital in Lagos State.
Ubangha has taken to social media to plead for help, alleging that her husband diverted the funds meant for her medical care.
In a lengthy post on her X (Twitter) handle, Ubangha recounted her ordeal, which began in the weeks leading up to her delivery. She stated that she started experiencing sudden and severe shortness of breath, prompting her rushed admission to the hospital.
Ubangha claimed that her husband was opposed to a cesarean section due to financial constraints and insisted that she deliver the baby naturally. This decision, she alleged, put both her and her unborn child at risk.
Despite the doctors’ recommendation for a C-section, Ubangha said her husband refused to pay for the procedure. She alleged that he instead used the money to purchase a phone and a dog, leaving her stranded at the hospital with mounting medical bills.
The nursing mother eventually had to undergo the C-section after a kind Samaritan sent her 500,000 naira to cover the cost. However, Ubangga claimed that her husband squandered this money as well, forcing his sister to step in and pay for the surgery.
Ubangha’s ordeal did not end there. She is now left with a newborn baby girl and her aged mother, stranded at the hospital, having spent all her savings on medical expenses and food. The young mother is now appealing to the public for help, stating that she needs an additional 500,000 naira to cover her treatment plan and facilitate her discharge.
Attached to her post, a picture shows Ubangha with a swollen leg, further highlighting the severity of her condition. She has been diagnosed with peripartum cardiomyopathy, a rare and serious heart condition that can develop during pregnancy or shortly after childbirth.
As Ubangha’s story gains attention, the public is called upon to rally behind this young mother in her time of need, ensuring that she and her newborn daughter receive the necessary medical care and support to overcome this challenging situation.
