LAFIA, Nasarawa – The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the release of 10 minors who were detained during the recent nationwide protests over economic hardship and rising hunger.
According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, the juveniles were among 50 protesters arrested across four local government areas on August 1st, the first day of the mass demonstrations. The protesters were accused of attacking police personnel and looting during the unrest.
“Of those detained, 25 were arrested in Lafia, 16 in Karu, six in Keffi, and three in Mararaba Udege of Nasarawa Local Government Area,” Nansel stated in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.
The police spokesperson urged the public to go about their lawful activities without fear of intimidation, as the situation stabilizes following the widespread protests.
A major wave of demonstrations erupted across Nigeria on August 1st, driven by public dissatisfaction with the country’s worsening economic and social conditions. Protesters voiced frustrations nationwide, calling for reforms and greater government accountability.
In response, President Bola Tinubu appealed for patience with his administration’s policies, urging citizens not to allow hoodlums to exploit the unrest.
