Lagos, July 3, 2024 – In the midst of heavy rainfall in Lagos, a concerning incident has come to light, highlighting the challenges faced by citizens navigating the city’s infrastructure development.
A viral video shared on the social media platform X has captured the moment when a group of individuals, described as “miscreants,” extorted money from pedestrians seeking to use the walkway under a bridge in the Ojo area of Lagos.
According to the post by user ARISE0214, these individuals were demanding 100 naira (approximately $0.25 USD) from each person attempting to use the walkway, taking advantage of the ongoing construction project along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
The user criticized the lack of a temporary access route for pedestrians, stating that “the construction company should provide a temporary access route for the citizens where there are no pedestrian bridges to avoid all this.”
The video, which has been widely circulated, has sparked outrage among Lagosians, with many calling for immediate action to address the issue and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens navigating the city’s infrastructure during this period of development.
Authorities have yet to comment on the incident, but it is expected that steps will be taken to address the situation and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
