In a bold move to redefine wearable technology, Meta Platforms Inc. is accelerating development of its premium Hypernova smart glasses targeting an October 2025 release. Priced between $1,000-$1,400, these advanced eyewear devices feature a built-in display and gesture controls, positioning them as potential iPhone alternatives in Meta’s augmented reality roadmap.

Display Technology Evolution

The Hypernova glasses mark a significant evolution from Meta’s current $299 Ray-Ban collaboration with EssilorLuxottica. The new model’s monocular display, positioned in the lower-right lens quadrant, allows users to view notifications and apps without fully obstructing their vision. Early testing suggests wearers will glance downward to see content from WhatsApp, Messenger, and Meta’s AI assistant through a customized Android interface.

Gesture Control Innovations

Meta’s hardware teams are reportedly working extended hours to meet the ambitious October deadline. The glasses will pair with a triangular prism-shaped charging case and introduce a neural wristband called Ceres for gesture-based controls. Pinching fingers to select items and rotating palms to scroll through menus demonstrate Meta’s focus on hands-free interaction models.
