Former President Donald Trump’s sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, was found dead in her Upper East Side apartment in New York City on November 14, 2023. She was 86 years old at the time of her death. The cause of her death is currently under investigation, and the Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause.
Maryanne Trump Barry had a distinguished legal career. Until her retirement in 2019, she served as a senior judge on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is one level below the Supreme Court. Prior to becoming a judge, Barry worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 1974 and was nominated to the federal court in New Jersey by former President Ronald Reagan. She was later elevated to the U.S. Court of Appeals by former President Bill Clinton.
Barry had largely stayed out of the public eye during her brother’s presidency. However, she made headlines when her niece, Mary Trump, revealed secretly recorded conversations in which Barry criticized her brother, calling him “cruel” and stating that he “has no principles”. These recordings were made public while Mary Trump was promoting her book that denounced the former president.
Maryanne Trump Barry’s death marks the third sibling of Donald Trump to pass away. His youngest brother, Robert Trump, died in August 2020 at the age of 71, and his older brother, Fred Trump Jr., died in September 1981 at the age of 42. Donald Trump’s only living sibling is Elizabeth Trump Grau, who is 81 years old.
