In a move that could bolster their defensive lineup, Manchester United have reportedly made an inquiry about Chelsea’s young center-back Trevoh Chalobah.

The 25-year-old defender, who has been a part of Chelsea’s youth academy, may be on the move this summer as he was left out of the club’s pre-season tour to the United States.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chalobah is “disappointed” to have been excluded from Chelsea’s U.S. trip, but he will only leave the club if the right opportunity arises. Chalobah is under contract with Chelsea until 2028, giving him significant leverage in his next career move.

While no concrete offers have been received for Chalobah yet, Chelsea are said to be hoping for a transfer fee in the range of £25-30 million for the versatile defender, who can play both center-back and right-back. The potential departure of Chalobah comes as Chelsea’s defensive options have become increasingly crowded following recent arrivals and the return of players from injury.

Manchester United’s interest in Chalobah is driven by the need to bolster their defensive ranks after the departures of Raphael Varane and Willy Kwambala. The Red Devils view Chalobah as a more cost-effective and versatile option compared to other targets like Matthijs de Ligt and Jarrad Branthwaite.

Described as a “monster” by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, Chalobah currently earns £50,000 per week at Chelsea. However, with new manager Enzo Maresca potentially having different plans for the squad, Chalobah’s future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain.

In a related development, Manchester United are also reportedly in talks with Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui’s agent as they continue to explore defensive reinforcements for the upcoming season.
