Renowned comedian and actor, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has shed light on his recent comments regarding the perceived disrespect shown by Afrobeat music sensation, Wizkid, towards Mavin Records boss, Michael Ajereh, widely known as Don Jazzy.

Macaroni addressed the issue during a live show on Wazobia TV in Lagos on Wednesday.

Macaroni, while acknowledging Don Jazzy’s influential status as “perhaps the biggest entertainment influencer we have in Africa,” asserted that the manner in which Wizkid referred to him as an ‘influencer’ was disrespectful. He further emphasized that Don Jazzy’s impact on the music industry, from his early collaborations with artists like D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr Sid, and D’Prince, to the emergence of talents such as Reekado Banks, Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, and Di’ja, cannot be undermined.

The comedian praised Don Jazzy’s far-reaching influence across music and film, stating, “His impact speaks volumes. So, while Wizkid’s comments about Don Jazzy were a bit disrespectful in context, Don Jazzy’s influence is undeniable.” Macaroni also highlighted that Don Jazzy’s success has made him an integral part of any meaningful discussion about shaping the music industry.

Recognizing Don Jazzy as a champion and a significant force in the growth of the music industry, Macaroni expressed admiration for his versatility in supporting content creators and filmmakers. He emphasized that Don Jazzy’s collaboration could propel budding talents to gain exposure to his millions of followers, irrespective of their follower count. However, Macaroni reiterated that Wizkid’s choice of words, specifically referring to Don Jazzy as an ‘influencer,’ was what many found disrespectful.

The recent Twitter exchanges between Wizkid and his followers, where he mocked both Davido and Don Jazzy, stirred a social media frenzy. Wizkid’s controversial tweets gained significant attention, propelling him to trend on various platforms. The Grammy award-winning artist belittled Don Jazzy as an ‘influencer’ and taunted Davido over a leaked viral video where he was seen emotionally distraught.

Notably, prominent figures within the entertainment industry, including nightlife impresario Cubana Chief Priest, have condemned Wizkid for his remarks targeting the two music heavyweights.

By providing insights into his viewpoint, Macaroni aims to shed light on the perceived disrespect while acknowledging Don Jazzy’s unparalleled influence and contributions to the music industry.
