The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has issued an official notice to individual taxpayers, including self-employed individuals and employees under the Pay As You Earn Scheme, urging them to file their Annual Tax Returns by March 31, 2024.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mr Ayodele Subair, the Executive Chairman of LIRS, highlighted the importance of complying with the regulations outlined in the Personal Income Tax Amendment Act Cap P8 2011.
Under Section 41 of the Amendment Act, all taxable entities are required to submit a return reflecting their total income from all sources for the previous fiscal year to the relevant state tax authority within 90 days of the beginning of each new assessment year.
To avoid penalties and other legal consequences, Subair emphasized the significance of meeting the deadline and urged all individual taxpayers, including self-employed individuals and employees under the PAYE scheme in Lagos State, to fulfill their obligations by the specified date.
The LIRS Chairman also stressed that tax returns should be exclusively submitted through the LIRS eTax portal, which has been specifically designed to ensure convenience, security, and ease of use for taxpayers.
To facilitate compliance, dedicated tax officers are available at various tax stations to assist individuals in completing online registration and submitting their tax returns via the eTax portal.
By adhering to the March 31 deadline and utilizing the user-friendly eTax portal, taxpayers can fulfill their responsibilities and contribute to the growth and development of Lagos State while enjoying a seamless tax filing experience.
