Leicester City clinched the English Championship title with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Preston North End on Monday evening.
Under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, the Foxes secured the resounding victory and the coveted title, courtesy of Jamie Vardy’s impressive brace, complemented by Kasey McAteer’s contribution as the third goal scorer.
Having already been confirmed on Friday as one of the two teams to gain automatic promotion to the English Premier League, Leicester City celebrated their success with this latest championship win—a remarkable eighth title in the second tier of English football, setting a new record for any club in the country.
Jamie Vardy, who has spent 12 years with Leicester, displayed his goal-scoring prowess by finding the back of the net once in each half, establishing a commanding lead for his team. McAteer then sealed the victory with a well-executed header, securing the team’s 31st win of the season.
Wilfred Ndidi, the talented midfielder from the Nigerian national team, played a significant role in the match, contributing for 70 minutes at Deepdale. However, Kelechi Iheanacho was notably absent from the substitutes’ bench, but both players will be awarded winners’ medals as Leicester City is set to receive the Football League trophy during their final league match of the season at the King Power Stadium.
