Lokoja, Kogi State – In a shocking turn of events, the Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a Police Inspector, Aminu Mohammed, for his involvement in a series of robberies targeting the residences of those living near his duty station at the ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.
According to the Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the officer’s luck ran out on Sunday when a notorious gang of armed robbers, who had been terrorizing the area, was apprehended. The gang members confessed to robbing a local resident’s home with the sole purpose of obtaining the victim’s car for the police inspector.
Investigations revealed that the stolen vehicle was found in the workshop of the policeman’s panel beater, Arome Moses, who was already in the process of changing the car’s color to an Abuja license plate number. The panel beater had also presented a backdated car dealer’s receipt from 2020 in an attempt to legitimize the officer’s ownership of the vehicle.
“Those who knew the vehicle and were aware of the robbery incident that occurred at the owner’s house on June 14th, 2024, quickly raised the alarm upon sighting the car,” SP Aya stated. The Quick Response Unit of the Police Area Command was promptly notified, leading to the apprehension of the panel beater.
One of the armed robbers, who had been on the police’s wanted list for other crimes, confessed to the crime and named the police inspector as the mastermind behind the scheme. The officer is currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of his involvement in the criminal activities.
This incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community, as the public’s trust in the police force has been significantly undermined. Authorities have vowed to take swift and decisive action against the accused officer, ensuring that justice is served and the community’s faith in the law enforcement system is restored.
