In a significant move, Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group and the Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) in Wudil, Kano, has pledged seven key interventions to bolster the university’s educational development.
The announcement comes just a week after Dangote paid a whopping N100 million upfront to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to restore electricity to the state-owned institution.
According to a statement by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Musa Yakasai, the interventions were outlined during a visit by the university’s management team to Dangote’s office in Lagos on Wednesday.
Dangote has pledged to construct a befitting Senate Building for the university, build three additional student hostel blocks, and construct 10 units of senior academic staff accommodation.
Additionally, the African richest man has offered to upgrade the university’s water treatment plant to address water supply issues, bankroll the upcoming 5th convocation ceremony, and provide a sustainable energy solution to the institution’s electricity supply problem.
Furthermore, Dangote has also committed to providing official vehicles to the university’s principal officers.
“The University Management, on behalf of the State Government, the entire University Community and the good people of Kano State, highly appreciate the Chancellor, Alhaji (Dr) Aliko Dangote GCON, the President of the Dangote Group for this landmark intervention,” Professor Yakasai stated in the statement.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the visit was crucial to express the university’s gratitude for Dangote’s earlier intervention in paying the N100 million upfront to KEDCO, which facilitated the immediate reconnection of the university’s electricity supply.
This latest pledge from the philanthropist is expected to have a significant impact on the university’s infrastructure, amenities, and overall educational experience for both students and faculty.
