A student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Christiana Idowu, has been tragically reported murdered following her abduction in Lagos State.

The incident occurred between Ikorodu and Yaba, where she was taken while en route to the University of Lagos for her industrial training.

Ibrahim Adeyemi, president of the Student Union Government at FUNAAB, confirmed the distressing news in a telephone interview on Thursday. He stated, “The Union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will be addressing the matter soon.”

According to sources, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N3 million for her release. After several attempts to reach her, the family was contacted by the abductors through Christiana’s phone. They ultimately agreed to accept a reduced sum of N350,000, which the family paid; however, the kidnappers did not release her afterward.

In a widely shared post on X, a user known as @letter_to_jack disclosed that intelligence operatives were able to trace the suspect’s location through the Bank Verification Number (BVN) and account details used for the ransom collection. The post detailed that investigations commenced on June 26, leading to confirmation from the bank regarding the account linked to the alleged kidnapper.

The post continued, “By June 29, operatives learned that the account owner, whose identity is currently withheld, had withdrawn N100,000 from the betting account before the account was locked at the request of law enforcement.”

Further investigation revealed potential connections between Christiana and the suspected abductor, highlighted by their interactions on social media. Tracking of the suspect’s phone activities led operatives to his family home in Ikorodu.

Attempts to obtain comments from Christiana’s family were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered. Additionally, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has not responded to inquiries made by our correspondent.

This tragic incident has raised concerns about student safety and the ongoing issues of kidnapping in the region. The FUNAAB community mourns the loss of Christiana as details continue to unfold.
