The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in combating child trafficking, as two individuals, identified as Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, were arrested by police operatives.

The operation resulted in the rescue of five minors who had been taken by the suspects.

Earlier this year, the FCT Police Command, in collaboration with the Rapid Response Squad 74, apprehended a pastor, Simon Kado, his relative, Jesse Simon-Kado, and their driver, Muhammad Isah, in connection with a child trafficking case. The suspects were caught trafficking twelve underage children from Nasarawa State to Ogun State.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Thursday, April 27, 2024, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, were intercepted at the Kagini Junction in Abuja while attempting to transport the five children into the Federal Capital Territory. Despite initially attempting to evade arrest by Sokoto Police operatives, the suspects were ultimately apprehended by vigilant officers in Abuja.

The rescued children, aged between six and twelve years, have been handed over to the Sokoto State Police Command for further investigation and to facilitate their safe return to their families.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Benneth C. Igweh, expressed the command’s collaboration with Sokoto State authorities to ensure the children’s well-being and their reunification with their loved ones. Igweh urged parents and guardians to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police.

Reaffirming the commitment of the FCT Command to combating child trafficking and other crimes, Commissioner Igweh emphasized the relentless efforts of the police in ensuring the safety and security of residents, particularly children.

The arrested suspects are currently in police custody and will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.

The FCT Command called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, assuring the public of the police’s steadfast dedication to upholding safety and security within the region.
