KANO, Nigeria – In a remarkable turn of events, Emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has returned to Kano as the state’s new first-class Emir after being reinstated by the Kano State Government.
Emir Sanusi is expected to receive his official appointment letter at the Kano State Government House this morning before proceeding to the Nassarawa Emir’s Palace. From there, he will lead the Friday prayers at the Kano Central Mosque located within the palace complex.
The reinstatement comes four years after Emir Sanusi was controversially dethroned by the previous state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. However, current Governor Abba Yusuf has not only reappointed Sanusi, but also deposed five other emirs installed by the former administration.
The state government’s move to restructure the Kano Emirate Council has faced legal challenges, with the Federal High Court in Kano issuing an order to stop the enforcement of the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law. This ruling was in response to a lawsuit filed by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate.
Despite the ongoing legal disputes, Emir Sanusi’s return to the throne has been met with a celebratory homecoming reception from the people of Kano. As he resumes his duties, the Emir is expected to play a crucial role in the state’s affairs and the preservation of its rich cultural heritage.
