The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, is presently under the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Reliable sources have confirmed that Emefiele, who is currently undergoing questioning at the EFCC’s National Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, was apprehended by EFCC agents on Thursday night, shortly after his release from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention.
A credible insider informed our correspondent on Friday morning that the EFCC is conducting an investigation into Emefiele’s alleged misconduct during his tenure as the head of the central bank. The investigation encompasses suspicions of misappropriation of funds and other related matters.
“Yes, Emefiele is currently in our (EFCC) custody; he was arrested last night less than an hour after the DSS freed him. He’s presently being interrogated at the Headquarters, as part of the investigation into alleged financial irregularities and other issues during his tenure as CBN governor,” the source stated.
