The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended and is currently detaining Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, a controversial social media personality, on charges related to financial misconduct.

The arrest took place in Lagos on Wednesday night, and Bobrisky has since been held at the EFCC’s Lagos Command.

Confirming the arrest, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated in a telephone interview on Thursday that Bobrisky is being investigated for various offenses, including the abuse of currency, the act of spraying money, and currency mutilation. The EFCC is committed to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian currency, and while the investigation is ongoing, Bobrisky will soon face legal proceedings.

In a subsequent statement titled “EFCC Launches Investigation into Alleged Naira Abuse by Bobrisky,” the EFCC announced that its Lagos Zonal Command had initiated an inquiry into the actions of Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky. The investigation arose following a video report showing Bobrisky spraying and flaunting large sums of money at the premiere of a movie, “Ajakaju,” produced by Nollywood actress and producer Eniola Ajao at Film One Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024.

Further investigation revealed that similar incidents of alleged financial misconduct had occurred at other event centers and parties on multiple occasions. Bobrisky willingly appeared at the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Command on Wednesday, April 4, 2024, where he was interrogated and provided statements. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Bobrisky will be duly prosecuted in a court of law.
