In a significant boost for Chelsea, rising star Cole Palmer has signed a new two-year contract extension, tying him to Stamford Bridge until 2033.
The 22-year-old England international joined the Blues last summer from Manchester City in a £40 million move, and has wasted no time in establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s standout performers.
After a spectacular debut season in west London, where he registered 25 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, Palmer has now been rewarded with a long-term deal.
“Cole Palmer commits future to Chelsea by signing 2yr contract extension. 22yo England attacker already tied down until 2031; terms now through to June 2033. Rewards brilliant debut season after joining from Manchester City,” said respected journalist David Ornstein.
The young forward’s impressive form also earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, where he made a significant impact. Palmer set up Ollie Watkins’ winner in the semi-final and scored the equalizer in the final against Spain, though the Three Lions ultimately fell short.
Chelsea’s new owners, Clearlake Capital, have faced scrutiny over their transfer strategy since acquiring the club from Roman Abramovich. However, the retention of Palmer is a clear success story, with the player’s new contract reflecting his status as a key part of the club’s long-term plans.
“This new deal is a testament to Cole’s brilliant performances and the faith the club has in his continued development,” a Chelsea spokesperson said. “We are delighted to have secured his services for the foreseeable future as we look to build a squad capable of challenging for trophies.”
Palmer is expected to feature prominently in new manager Enzo Maresca’s plans, and is expected to be in the lineup when Chelsea faces his former club, Manchester City, in their Premier League season opener on Sunday.
The news of Palmer’s contract extension comes as Chelsea faces uncertainty over the future of another England international, Conor Gallagher. The midfielder had agreed a move to Atletico Madrid, but complications over a deal involving Samu Omorodion have put the transfer at risk, with Tottenham also reportedly interested in the 24-year-old.
