Building Collapse in Ibadan Claims 10 Lives, 7 Injured

In a tragic incident early Thursday morning, a building collapse in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals and injuries to seven others.

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency reported that the incident occurred around 2 AM in the Jegeda Oluloyo area, located in the Ona Ara Local Government Area.

According to the agency’s statement, rescue operations are still ongoing. Emergency responders were able to recover 10 bodies from the debris, while seven survivors were successfully rescued.

The statement detailed: “The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received an urgent call at approximately 2 AM regarding the collapse. Ten individuals were recovered from the rubble, and seven were rescued alive. Rescue efforts are still in progress.”

Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the state Fire Services, shared, “We received a distress call from local residents at 2 AM. Upon arrival, we confirmed ten fatalities. Three victims were already recovered by bystanders before our team arrived, and our personnel managed to rescue four more. Efforts are ongoing.”
