EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The reigning World Cup champions Argentina continued their dominance on the international stage, securing a commanding 2-0 victory over Canada to advance to the Copa America final on Sunday.

Led by the ageless wonder Lionel Messi, Argentina showcased their prowess in front of a packed crowd at MetLife Stadium on Tuesday night. Messi, who is chasing his first Copa America title with the national team, opened the scoring in the 52nd minute, slotting home a cool finish after a well-worked team move.

The breakthrough came courtesy of a lofted pass from Rodrigo De Paul, finding the run of Julian Alvarez, who calmly slotted the ball past Canada goalkeeper Max Crepeau in the 22nd minute to give Argentina the lead.

Canada, making their first-ever appearance in the Copa America semifinals, fought valiantly but were ultimately outclassed by the star-studded Argentine squad. The visitors struggled to maintain possession and create clear-cut chances against the well-organized Argentine defense.

As the game wore on, Argentina were content to control the tempo and manage the game, knowing that a place in the final was within their grasp. The experienced trio of Messi, Angel Di Maria, and De Paul orchestrated the team’s play with the poise and maturity that has become their hallmark.

“This group has accomplished something incredible,” Messi told reporters after the match. “To be in another final, to compete for another trophy, it’s not easy. We’re living this moment to the fullest and we’ll give everything to bring the title home.”

Argentina, the 15-time Copa America champions, will now face the winner of Wednesday’s semifinal between Uruguay and Colombia in the highly anticipated final on Sunday in Miami.
