The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has emphasized the importance of patriotism as Dr Olaide Adelami is sworn in as the state’s deputy governor.
Adelami’s inauguration on Thursday followed his successful screening and confirmation by the state House of Assembly, after Aiyedatiwa recommended him to the lawmakersThe ceremony took place at the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure, where Adelami took his oath of office administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola.
During the inauguration, Aiyedatiwa urged the new deputy governor to adhere to the principles of patriotism and to refrain from engaging in corrupt practices.
“I would like to congratulate you and your families on your well-deserved appointment, with the belief that you will serve diligently and patriotically,” said the governor.”It is important to note that this administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. We expect you to lead with transparency, openness, and accountability in your new role. Avoid any form of discrimination and remember that you represent the entire state, rather than sectional interests.”
“We have appointed a gentleman of exceptional quality, impeccable character, and strong administrative skills as the deputy governor, Dr Olayide Owolabi Adelami. The overwhelming joy and celebration that followed the recent appointments in the state are a testament to the fact that we have made the right choices. This is a clear challenge for you as the new deputy governor to handle your responsibilities in a manner that sustains this enthusiasm, as it is said, it is easier to reach the top than to remain at the top.”
In his acceptance speech, Adelami expressed gratitude to the governor and other stakeholders for entrusting him with the position. He pledged to work collaboratively with Governor Aiyedatiwa to advance the state’s progress and uphold the legacy of the late Akeredolu.
“To the wonderful people of Ondo State, I am here to join hands with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in serving you and ensuring a more meaningful life in all aspects. I kindly appeal to all our people in Ondo State, both at home and abroad, to support Mr. Governor and me in our sincere quest to establish good governance in our Sunshine State.”
“It is evident that within a month of Governor Aiyedatiwa assuming office, a new era of progress has emerged across various sectors of the state. Contractors involved in ongoing infrastructure projects in Ondo State have resumed work with renewed commitment, thanks to the assurance from Mr. Governor that no commendable project initiated by our former governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, will be abandoned.”
