Real Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior will miss the upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool due to a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Monday.
In an official statement, Real Madrid revealed, “After tests conducted today, our player Vinícius Júnior has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his left leg.”
Spanish media outlets indicate that the Brazilian winger is expected to be sidelined for nearly a month, missing not only Wednesday’s fixture at Anfield but also the Champions League visit to Atalanta on December 10.
Vinícius played the full 90 minutes in Madrid’s recent 3-0 victory over Leganés in La Liga, contributing an assist for Kylian Mbappé’s opening goal. The 24-year-old has been in exceptional form this season, often outshining the summer signing of Mbappé. He finished second in the recent Ballon d’Or voting and has scored four goals in the Champions League this season, alongside eight goals in La Liga across 13 matches.
Defending champions Real Madrid have had a rocky start to their European campaign, suffering two losses in their first four matches. They fell 1-0 to Lille and were defeated 3-1 at home by AC Milan, leaving them in 18th place in the expanded group table.
In contrast, Liverpool, now under the management of Arne Slot, is leading both the Champions League standings and the Premier League.
