The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 16-year-old boy, Nuhu Haruna, from the Dutsinma Local Government Area, for allegedly murdering his stepmother.
This incident is part of a broader investigation into various kidnapping and homicide cases in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, announced the arrest during a press briefing at the Command headquarters on Wednesday. He detailed that the young suspect was taken into custody following a violent dispute with his stepmother, Rabi Haruna, aged 40, which led to her tragic death.
“On October 21, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., our command arrested Nuhu Haruna, a 16-year-old from Fenza village, Dutsinma LGA, for culpable homicide. The suspect allegedly struck his stepmother with a stick in the stomach during a misunderstanding, resulting in her untimely demise,” ASP Sadiq reported.
In a separate case, the police also arrested Abubakar Nasiru, known as Haro, from Daura LG, on charges of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping. According to ASP Sadiq, Nasiru, who has a prior conviction for rape, was involved in a kidnapping case during an ongoing investigation.
“Nasiru and accomplices, now at large, reportedly stormed Unguwar Maza village in Kafur LGA in 2023 and kidnapped three individuals. A ransom of N13 million was paid for their release, with Nasiru admitting to receiving N2 million as his share,” Sadiq explained. Efforts are ongoing to locate his accomplices.
Additionally, officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Ibrahim Isah from Yana village, Charanchi LG. He is accused of contacting the father of a missing man, Bello Sani, demanding N1 million as ransom for his release. Police acted on a tip-off to trace and apprehend him.
Furthermore, in collaboration with the Gombe State Police Command, 25-year-old Nasiru Sanusi from Gidan Daudu village, Kankara LGA, was arrested for allegedly conspiring with three accomplices to kidnap his uncle, a local ward head. After receiving N8 million and six bags of fertilizer as ransom, the gang reportedly killed the victim.
ASP Sadiq confirmed that Sanusi fled to several states, including Lagos, Taraba, and Gombe, where he continued his criminal activities until his arrest.
“The suspect has confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices. The command is committed to pursuing all fleeing suspects to ensure justice is served,” he stated.
