A devastating fire at a hospital in southern Taiwan has resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, according to the island’s fire agency. The incident occurred in Pingtung County on Thursday morning, with the blaze reported around 7:40 AM and extinguished shortly after 1 PM.
Initial reports confirmed that eight victims succumbed to their injuries after being transported for treatment, while another individual was later discovered deceased at the scene.
The fire coincided with the landfall of Typhoon Krathon in southern Taiwan, although authorities have not established a direct connection between the two events. The typhoon has caused significant disruptions, forcing schools and businesses to remain closed for a second consecutive day due to strong winds and heavy rainfall. As a result, at least two people have died, and more than 100 have sustained injuries.
The fire agency continues to investigate the cause of the hospital blaze.
