In their highly anticipated IBF heavyweight showdown at Wembley, former two-time champion Anthony Joshua is poised to earn more than double the pay of Daniel Dubois, despite suffering a fifth-round knockout loss.
According to a report by Sporty Salaries via GB News, Joshua was guaranteed £6 million just for participating, with potential earnings soaring to £25 million based on pay-per-view sales. In contrast, Dubois, who pulled off the upset by knocking out Joshua, has a guaranteed purse of £3.5 million, which could increase to £10 million.
Joshua’s higher earnings stem from the significant attention he brought to the fight, even in defeat. Following his fourth career loss, the 34-year-old has expressed his determination to continue his boxing career, dismissing calls for retirement. In a recent Instagram video, he stated, “We came up short, but we have to focus on the positives. Look at what we’ve achieved in 11 years. It’s far from over yet.”
Dubois’ victory places him at the forefront of the heavyweight division, paving the way for potential matchups against notable fighters like Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk, as well as a possible rematch with Joshua.
The bout also made headlines for drawing a record crowd for a British boxing match, with Turki Alalshikh reporting an attendance of over 98,128 fans.
