In a shocking incident, a serving officer of the Nigerian Navy, Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Aminu, the son of retired Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim, former Chief of Naval Staff.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, Bennett Igweh, announced that the suspect allegedly killed Aminu and subsequently stole his vehicle two weeks ago. The police have since recovered the stolen car, a Prado SUV.
Commissioner Igweh stated, “Approximately two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim was tragically robbed and murdered in the Maitama area of Abuja. Following our investigation, we can confirm that Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a current member of the Nigerian Navy, is responsible for this heinous crime. He has confessed, and we have successfully retrieved the vehicle.”
In his statement to the media, Muhammad explained that he was stationed at the former Chief of Naval Staff’s residence. He recounted the events leading up to the incident: “I was on duty when Aminu asked for my assistance around 11:30 PM, indicating he needed security. As we traveled, he stopped to check his ATM, and I mistakenly believed I was escorting him to a market. It was then that I shot him and took his car. I acted out of a desire to steal the vehicle.”
Additionally, the police paraded 94 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria who were arrested following the deaths of two police officers on Sunday.
Further details will be provided as the investigation continues.
