A new report from data intelligence platform StatiSense has shed light on the online habits of Nigerian mobile users, revealing a substantial portion of their web activity was directed towards adult content and gambling sites.

According to the StatiSense analysis, Nigerian mobile users collectively made over 162 million visits to various websites in June 2024. While the top destinations included popular search engines and social media apps, the data also highlighted the significant traffic drawn by adult content platforms and online betting services.

Notably, the adult websites Xvideos and Xnxx ranked second and sixth respectively among the most visited sites, together accounting for 80.18 million visits. This figure represents a sizable chunk of the total web traffic generated by Nigerian users on their mobile devices last month.

The findings, shared in a post on StatiSense’s official X page, underscore the extent to which Nigerians are engaging with online content and services traditionally considered taboo or controversial. The prevalence of adult and gambling websites among the top-visited domains raises questions about digital habits and access to such platforms within the country.

StatiSense’s report provides a valuable snapshot of the Nigerian digital landscape, underscoring the need for policymakers and industry stakeholders to further examine the implications of these trends and explore ways to promote more constructive online engagement among the country’s mobile users.
