The Lagos State Government has brought charges against popular online influencer Suraj Oyewale, known as #SirJarus, for allegedly assaulting his wife.

Oyewale was arraigned on Thursday before the Ogba Magistrate Court 5 on two counts – one for the alleged assault against his wife, and another for conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

This development follows an earlier investigation by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) into allegations of abuse involving #SirJarus and his wife, Mrs. Oyewale Ayoola.

In now-deleted tweets, Oyewale had claimed that his wife engaged in “fetish practices and provocative behavior” that led to a physical altercation between them. However, the DSVA has reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance stance against domestic violence in any form.

Adejoke Ladenegan-Oginni, the Head of the DSVA’s Public Affairs Unit, stated that the agency is taking the case very seriously. As the statutory body responsible for preventing and responding to domestic and sexual violence, the DSVA views such acts as unacceptable.

The agency has referred the matter to the Commissioner of Police’s Gender Desk Department to ensure a thorough investigation commences.

The DSVA’s handling of this high-profile case involving a social media influencer has sparked widespread discussions and reactions on platforms like X (formerly Twitter).
