At least three people were hospitalized following a serious accident involving two cargo trucks in Lagos, Nigeria.
The collision occurred early this morning at the Ajegunle bus stop along the Sango-Tollgate road. According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), one of the trucks was traveling the wrong way at a high speed when its brakes failed, causing it to crash head-on with an oncoming truck carrying floor tiles.
The impact left one truck driver with a broken leg, while two other victims sustained severe head injuries. LASTMA operatives rushed to the scene and transported the injured parties to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, confirmed the accident details. He stated that both trucks were transporting commercial goods – one carrying bottled Maltina beverages and the other transporting floor tiles.
Giwa emphasized that the incident highlights the ongoing problem of drivers violating traffic laws, particularly by traveling the wrong way. He urged all motorists to prioritize vehicle maintenance, especially of braking systems, and to refrain from excessive speeding, especially during the rainy season.
The spokesperson expressed sympathy for those injured and stressed the importance of safe driving practices to prevent such collisions in the future.
