In a move to support the Nigerian government’s green energy initiatives, Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL) has announced plans to launch three new hybrid electric vehicles (EVs) in the country over the next three years.
Speaking at the inaugural Toyota Motor Show in Lagos, TNL Managing Director Kunle Ade-Ojo revealed the company’s ambitious EV rollout plans. “By the end of this year, we’ll be introducing our first hybrid electric vehicle, the Toyota Cross. Next year, we’ll bring in the RAV4 hybrid. And late next year or early 2026, we would be launching the Land Cruiser Prado hybrid,” he stated.
The exclusive three-day motor show, which ran from June 27-29, provided Nigerian consumers an up-close look at Toyota’s latest offerings. Along with the EV debuts, the event featured vehicle displays, new product launches, after-sales packages, test drives, and interactive sessions with TNL executives.
Ade-Ojo noted that the solo Toyota showcase allowed the company to focus squarely on customer needs, unlike multi-brand auto shows. “This show is for all Toyota customers and other Nigerians interested in buying Toyota vehicles,” he said. “It gave us the chance to have one-on-one interactions with our customers without any distractions.”
The announcement comes as Nigeria looks to accelerate its transition to cleaner transportation. TNL pledged to lend its extensive network of workshops to support the government’s campaign for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicle conversions.
Last year, Nigeria’s new vehicle sales reached around 10,000 units, with Toyota capturing approximately 1,500. Ade-Ojo projected that figure could climb to 15,000 in 2023, with Toyota aiming to double its previous year’s performance.
