Milan, June 28, 2024 – Atalanta football club has named Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman as their Player of the Season for the 2023/24 campaign, the second consecutive year the 26-year-old has earned the prestigious award.
The club announced Lookman’s repeat victory in a celebratory post on social media, playing on the player’s name with the caption “Your Player of The Season 2023/24 is once again Ademola. Lookman.”
Lookman’s outstanding performances were integral to Atalanta’s success this past season, which saw the Italian club capture their first ever UEFA Europa League title. The Nigerian international struck a brilliant hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen, scoring twice early on before netting the decisive third goal to secure a 3-0 victory in Dublin.
With his historic hat-trick, Lookman became the first player ever to score three goals in a Europa League final. He finished the season with an impressive 16 goals and 9 assists across all competitions.
“Look who won the Italian Optic #POTS again,” Atalanta proudly proclaimed on social media, referring to Lookman’s second consecutive Player of the Season award.
The talented forward joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 for a fee reported to be around €15 million, after previously struggling to find consistent playing time during spells with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City in the Premier League.
Now firmly established as a key figure at the Serie A club, Lookman will look to build on his back-to-back Player of the Season accolades and lead Atalanta’s charge for more silverware in the upcoming campaign.
