Kaduna, June 28, 2024 – The National Youth Leader of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Auwal Musa, has fiercely criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) investigation into former Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing it as a politically-motivated “witch-hunt.”

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Musa challenged the EFCC to present concrete evidence to substantiate its allegations against Kwankwaso, who currently serves as the leader of the NNPP. “Otherwise, we consider this an attempt to tarnish his image and unfairly target him,” Musa stated.

The youth leader questioned the timing of the EFCC’s probe, which covers Kwankwaso’s tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. “Why did the EFCC wait nine years after he left office to investigate him? And why probe his activities as a party leader?” Musa asked.

Musa argued that investigating an “honest and hardworking” individual like Kwankwaso would be a waste of time, pointing to his record of achievements as both a governor and a federal minister. “Go to Kano and see what he did as a governor, check his records as a Defence Minister, and a Senator,” he said.

The NNPP youth leader urged the EFCC to disregard any petitions filed against Kwankwaso by rival politicians or their associates, suggesting that the probe is politically motivated.

Addressing the party’s internal affairs, Musa claimed that the NNPP has resolved all its crises, including power struggles among officers at the local, state, and national levels. He revealed that the party has recently conducted successful elections in 13 states and made changes to its logo and campaign strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Musa expressed optimism that the NNPP will deliver “a surprise outing” and win both national and state seats in the upcoming polls, adding that Nigerian youths are ready to “take over the government and salvage this country from maladministration.”
