In a significant stride towards combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully destroyed a staggering 28,959kg of cannabis in Edo and Ekiti forests.

The NDLEA, under the vigilant watch of its spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi, has been relentless in its pursuit of a drug-free Nigeria. The agency recently reported the destruction of approximately 10,534.78 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on 4.213912 hectares of farmland in Edo. The farm, located at Uhen forest in Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state, was a significant contributor to the total amount of cannabis destroyed.

In addition to the Edo operation, the NDLEA has also been active in other states. For instance, in Ekiti, the agency destroyed a substantial amount of cannabis, further contributing to the total figure of 28,959kg. These operations are part of the NDLEA’s broader strategy to curb the cultivation and distribution of cannabis and other illicit substances across the country.

The NDLEA’s efforts extend beyond the destruction of cannabis farms. The agency has been instrumental in busting drug warehouses and seizing large consignments of illicit substances. In Lagos, for instance, the NDLEA uncovered a warehouse stocked with a large consignment of codeine-based syrup. Four persons connected with the importation and distribution of the opioid were arrested during the operation.

The NDLEA’s actions are not just reactive but also proactive. The agency has been working tirelessly to prevent the establishment of new drug farms and warehouses. This is evident in their recent operations in Ogun state, where they seized 390kg of cannabis and arrested three individuals during an early morning raid.

The NDLEA’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and illicit trafficking is commendable. The agency’s recent successes in Edo and Ekiti forests are a testament to their dedication and hard work. However, the fight against drug abuse is far from over. As the NDLEA continues its unyielding crusade, it is crucial for every citizen to support these efforts and contribute to a drug-free Nigeria.

In conclusion, the NDLEA’s recent operations in Edo and Ekiti forests have resulted in the destruction of over 28,000kg of cannabis. These operations are a significant step towards achieving a drug-free Nigeria. However, the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is a collective responsibility. It is therefore essential for all stakeholders, including the government, non-governmental organizations, and citizens, to join hands with the NDLEA in this noble cause.
