Lagos, Nigeria – The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos has arrested a man believed to be an internet scammer for allegedly obtaining a vehicle through deception and stealing $60,000 (approximately 30 million Naira).

According to the Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, the suspect, Joshua Olawuyi, was apprehended after the command received a petition from Adesuwa Ogizie, a US-based licensed car dealer.

Ogizie reported that in 2016, Olawuyi contacted her to purchase a Mercedes Benz GLE 350 valued at $60,000. He allegedly told Ogizie that he had instructed his brother, Jude Hanslem, to make the payment on his behalf.

However, after the vehicle was delivered to the suspect in Nigeria, Ogizie discovered that the money paid into her account was the proceeds of fraud.

SP Ayuba stated that a team of detectives from the Zonal Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by SP Abass Gadzama, swiftly apprehended the suspect. During questioning, Olawuyi reportedly confessed to the crime, claiming he was involved in internet fraud at the time of the offense and that the Mercedes Benz had been sold, with the proceeds converted.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided. The suspect will be prosecuted accordingly upon the completion of the investigation.
