In the quiet town of Bajoga, nestled in the Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State, Nigeria, a scandal has erupted that has left the community in shock and disbelief. A 25-year-old man, Ahmadu Saminu, known locally as Malam Mai Batalia, has been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command.
Saminu, a fortune teller by profession, had a diverse clientele that spanned across various local government areas, states, and even neighboring regions. He was known for interpreting dreams and providing insights to his patrons. However, his activities took a dark turn when a woman, seeking interpretation for a troubling dream, fell victim to him.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, had approached Saminu after having a disturbing dream about her mother being a witch. She sought clarification and guidance, but instead, she was allegedly coerced into his room. The Gombe State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest and allegations.
The victim’s husband, Bashiru Bello, reported the case. The victim claimed she was pregnant for four months but suffered a miscarriage. The police have taken her to the hospital for examination, and the case is under legal scrutiny.
Meanwhile, some residents of Funakaye have expressed concern over alleged efforts to secure Saminu’s release. One resident, identified as Hassan, suggested that influential figures connected to Saminu are attempting to intervene on his behalf. Another resident, Muhammad, warned against releasing Saminu without consequences, citing potential unrest among youths.
This incident has cast a shadow over the community, raising questions about the ethics and practices of fortune telling. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers and abuses that can occur when trust is placed in the wrong hands. As the case unfolds, the residents of Funakaye and indeed the whole of Gombe State await justice.
